West Cornwall MP MEETS LOCAL CLIMATE CAMPAIGNERS IN WESTMINSTER Derek Thomas MP took time out during a busy day in Parliament last week to meet constituents from West Cornwall as part of the ‘Speak Up for Climate’ lobby.9 thousand people from across the UK descended on Westminster as part of the biggest ever lobby on climate change. People from every walk of life, from anglers to bee keepers, and surfers to doctors, met their MPs to tell them about how what they love is at risk from the threat of climate change. The West Cornwall campaigners took the opportunity to ask Derek Thomas MP to do all he can in this Parliament to ensure warm homes for all, clean, safe power, that people and nature are protected, and that the poorest in the world who are most affected by climate change are helped. Mr Thomas heard about the importance of world leaders reaching an ambitious global agreement on climate change this year. Derek said 'The challenge presented to us by climate change offer the opportunity to do some very positive things in West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  For example making our homes more efficient and developing renewable technology would help in the effort to create more skilled jobs. I enjoyed meeting my passionate constituents and am very grateful to them for coming along.” Christine Allen, Christian Aid’s Director of Policy and Public Affairs, said: “Climate change is increasingly becoming the moral issue of our times. Those suffering from it the most in the developing world bear the least responsibility for creating it. As the first country to industrialise Britain has a duty to lead the way in addressing this global problem. That is why it is vital we in the UK urge our new MPs to make it a priority during this Parliament.”
