Derek Thomas, the Prospective Conservative MP for West Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly, has decided to extend the award for The St. Ives Small Business of the Year to the March 28th in response to requests from local businesses. Some businesses have been unable to make contact with their customer base due to the turbulent weather and some have been closed for quite a large part of January and February.
Derek said: “I want to make sure that every small independent business in St Ives has a fair chance in maximising their support for the award and this extension to the entry period will enable that to happen. There is still time for existing businesses to get more voting forms and for new businesses to enter the competition. Further supplies and entry forms can be ordered by calling the office on 01736 366851.”
Derek has also received a letter from Prime Minister David Cameron supporting the scheme, a copy of which is attached with this press release.
Derek said: ‘I am thrilled that The Prime Minister has taken a personal interest in what we are trying to do here in St. Ives. He understands, as we do, that small independent businesses are the heart of our communities and it is vital to give them as much recognition and encouragement as we can.”
