The St Ives Small Business Award, an initiative by Derek Thomas prospective Conservative MP for St Ives and endorsed by the Chamber of Trade, is gathering momentum as a host of businesses have signed up and hundreds of votes have been cast.
The idea is a simple one where shoppers are asked to vote for their favourite small independent local business with less than 50 employees. During the winter months when the town of St Ives is quieter this kind of initiative helps to inject some fun and competition amongst those participating whilst at the same time making the serious point about the supporting our vulnerable town centres.
The competition ends on Feb 28th so there is still time to join in if you are a small business and plenty of time for you to vote for your favourite business. You can register and vote on line at www.derekthomas.org/smallbusiness or pick up a voting form in your favourite town centre business. Businesses can order posters and leaflets on 01736 366851. Please leave your business name and address and a kit will be delivered direct.
Derek Thomas said: “I am really excited about the support the St Ives Small Business of the Year is receiving. Our small local businesses don’t have the financial resources of the large chains so it is important that we get together and support them whenever we can. Recognising the best local businesses is a great way to raise their profile.”
