Prospective Conservative MP, Derek Thomas, is supporting local efforts to reduce the speed on Bulwark Road. A petition has been set up by resident and mother, Jo Morley, to request that Cornwall Council addresses the issue of speeding vehicles on the Bulwark Estate.
Derek Thomas said, “I received a request from Jo on my Facebook page to help with her campaign. I could see that something needed to be done to make the roads safer. The school is a real success story and large numbers of people live on the estate – this inevitably increases the risk for pedestrians. So it is really important that some form of traffic calming can be introduced.”
The petition is going well and, under new arrangements at Cornwall Council, a well supported petition can get the attention of the most senior decision-makers. In addition to addressing speeding traffic, Jo Morley’s petition urges the Council to investigate various traffic management measures and improved signage for drivers.
Derek recently met with Nansloe Academy Head Teacher, Mr C Field, Town Councillor, Aiden Harrison, Division Cllr Andrew Wallis and Jo Morley to discuss the need to reduce speed on the Estate.
Jo Morley commented, “Over many years the Council has refused our request for better road safety on Bulwark Road. I am determined to make it safer for the children here which is why I asked for further support from our local politicians and councillors, it was great when Derek and Cllr Andrew Wallis responded and agreed to help. If I could pay for it myself I would”
Jo is asking everyone living on the Bulwark Estate or in the area, and all the parents and staff of Nansloe School, to sign her petition. You can follow the campaign at Facebook.com/Bulwark/Albion Road Safety Campaign.
