The figures show that thanks to this investment, across the South West, 200,272 premises now have access to superfast broadband and by 2017 a total of 25,533 homes and businesses in the St Ives Constituency will have access to superfast connections, which would otherwise have had to suffer from a slow, unreliable internet.

Across the country this investment has already got an extra 2 million premises connected-up to superfast broadband, with 40,000 more being added every single week. By 2017, 95 per cent of the UK will have access to superfast broadband – this compares to only 45 per cent in 2009.

This investment is part of the Conservatives long-term economic plan that will mean families will be able to enjoy the full benefits of the internet and businesses being able to open up new markets and do business across the world, helping them to expand and create new jobs. Derek said: “I have campaigned long and hard for better connectivity throughout Cornwall, not just better broadband but also better mobile phone coverage.

The Prime Minister understands that broadband is essential for small businesses to thrive. We have talked about it and it’s great to see the hard work now being done to turn around years of under-investment by previous governments.

Within the next two years more than 25,500 more premises in this part of the world will be able to connect with family abroad or potential customers around the world. This is great news for Cornwall’s economy.”

Prime Minister David Cameron said:

“Businesses that need to operate efficiently and hardworking families who want to enjoy their free time need good, fast internet access. Derek Thomas and I have spoken about this and I’m pleased that our Superfast broadband rollout plan is making such good progress in West Cornwall and on the Isles of Scilly.”
