During the tour the Steamship Company's CEO, Rob Goldsmith and Chairman, Andrew May explained how Department For Transport money is being used to dredge Penzance Harbour and carry out extensive improvements to the harbour in St Mary's. Prospective MP, Derek Thomas, has maintained regular contact with the Department of Transport in order to ensure West Cornwall's transport infrastructure receives the investment it needs. Derek Thomas said "In two years as Transport Secretary, Patrick has visited Cornwall on four occassions. I know that he takes the need to invest in our transport network seriously and is prepared to help us exploit every opportunity to access funds and support. Good transport links will make it easier for people to relocate their business to West Cornwall and provide skilled jobs for our workforce"
