Family-run business, Cornish Candy Shoppe has won Derek’s St Ives Small Business of the Year 2014.
The St Ives Small Business of the Year Award was a joint venture between the St Ives Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Derek Thomas, Prospective Conservative Member of Parliament. Launched on Small Business Day last December, the aim of the event was to encourage people to shop locally and support small businesses in St Ives.
Derek Thomas said: ”I am so grateful to the owners of small businesses for their enthusiasm and hard graft. They create new jobs and keep our unique identity here in West Cornwall alive. We enjoy a great mix of small and independent businesses and they are essential to our local economy”
Next stop: The Penzance Small Business Award
Meanwhile Derek and his team of Penzance volunteers launched the Small Business Award in Penzance over the Easter holidays. Over 60 businesses are taking part. A formal award ceremony with Matthew Hancock MP, Skills and Enterprise Minister, takes place in June for both the winners of the St Ives and the Penzance Small Business Award.
