There is a real treat in store this weekend for Point-to-Point horseracing enthusiasts, with two meetings scheduled in the Devon & Cornwall Area.

The first is on Saturday 14th February, where the Western host their meeting at the popular Wadebridge track. This is an ideal way to treat your partner for a day at the races on Valentines day. There are seven races on offer, with easy access to the course, and great track side viewing at the Royal Cornwall Showground. With the weather set fair, it looks like many of the horses that prefer the faster ground will be out. Action is set to take place at 12 noon with the Green Waste Co-sponsored Confined. Of the ten entered, My Sweet Lord from the Robert Chanin team won well here in January, when sent off odds-on favorite to please his backers. Before The War catches the eye after his two comfortable wins at Flete Park last season for trainer Ed Walker.

In the Savills-sponsored Ladies Open, Byerley Bear could well turn up again to his favourite track, where he has clocked up an impressive seven wins so far here. Those lining up to rattle his cage on this occasion could be Aiteen Thirtythree from the Parker team. He has five straight point wins, including a mixed open, he has previously won two Chases under rules and is a Cheltenham Novice hurdle winner on good ground.

Exeter Racecourse sponsor the Intermediate race, in which connections of recent Black Forest Lodge winner Tolatetobeearly are looking for a ticket into the final, and a quick fire double could be on the cards for him under novice jockey Taylor Pook. Little Cornham from the Keith Cumings-team ran well recently when second under reigning national champion jockey Will Biddick, who last weekend clocked up his 200th winner.

The Open Maiden race has already been divided, these have been sponsored by Stimson & Tieken and Rosevean Vets. Suggestions in the first division could be Sedgemoor Top Bid and The Mystro after their recent thirds. In the second division Follow The Paint and Wivannie catch the eye.

Peter & Anita George kindly sponsor the Mens Open, and of the eight entered Cock Of The Rock had been unlucky here previously when slipping up on the bend, but then went on to run second behind Harbour Court at Milborn St Andrew under jockey Harry Cobden, having only been headed near the finish. On that form they look to be likely favourties. Working Title could be the main challenger, having previously held Googoobarabajagal also entered, in fifth at the last meeting.

Finally in the Trelawney of Penzance Restricted race, a battle could be on for the prizes between recent winners Sonoftheking from the Nicola Martin team, Genermouse who was a surprise 33-1 at Black Forest Lodge, and the Kayley Woollacott-trained Le Clo De La Londe.

The course boasts a large covered barn containing hot refreshments, bookies, bar and trade stands. Entrance is £10 per car and driver, £5 per passenger with children under 16 free. Course is located off A39 west of Wadebridge. Post code PL27 7JE.

70 entries, 28 jockeys in 7 races, including the reigning national point to point jockey, Will Biddick, and last year's leading horse in Ladies Races nationally, Byerley Bear. A great day out with exciting races over steeplechase fences.

Nick Phillips reports the provisional going for the Western Hunt which is scheduled to take place at Wadebridge on Saturday 14th February is GOOD.

Linda Matthews adds the course was rolled on Friday and the jumps have been “pricked out” so all is looking good.
